Affordable and Clean Energy

On June 15, 2023, at the Khlong Mae Lai Subdistrict Municipality Council Meeting Room, Kamphaeng Phet Rajabhat University (KPRU) signed an academic collaboration agreement with the Thailand Institute of Scientific and Technological Research (TISTR) and the Khlong Mae Lai Subdistrict Municipality to advance research in science, technology, and innovation related to energy and environmental sustainability.

The ceremony was presided over by Asst. Prof. Dr. Preeyanuch Prompasit, President of KPRU; Dr. Prateep Wongbandit, Deputy Governor for Research and Sustainable Development at TISTR; and Mrs. Pareeni Peeraphan, Mayor of Khlong Mae Lai Subdistrict Municipality.

This collaboration focuses on developing biodiesel production from used cooking oil, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and promoting low-carbon communities, with support from the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT).

The key objectives of the project include:

Establishing community-scale biodiesel production units powered by solar-heated water systems and transferring the technology to the Mo Kluay Khai community.
Reducing community energy costs through the integration of renewable energy in production processes.
Developing a greenhouse gas reduction accounting system for municipalities and biodiesel-using communities.
Managing used cooking oil to add economic and environmental value.
Transferring biodiesel technology to support policy planning at provincial and local government levels.
Promoting agricultural applications by using community-produced biodiesel to replace diesel fuel in farming equipment.
A total of 38 participants attended the ceremony, including representatives from TISTR, KPRU, Khlong Mae Lai Municipality, Phetchomphu Subdistrict Administrative Organization, Ang Thong Phatthana School, Kamphaeng Phet Provincial Administrative Organization, and the Mo Kluay Khai Market community.

The agreement will be implemented over five years (2023–2028) and represents a key step toward strengthening collaborative innovation, renewable energy development, and sustainable community transformation in the region.
