Partnerships for the goals

Kamphaeng Phet Rajabhat University (KPRU), with academic support from Walailak University, organised the seminar SDGs: Driving Local Communities towards Sustainability on 2–3 April 2025 at Rattanapha Auditorium. The event brought together students, university personnel and representatives of government agencies to deepen their understanding of the Sustainable Development Goals and their indicators at global and national levels. It also aimed to develop participants’ ability to connect the SDGs with local challenges, incorporate them into organisational plans, and design appropriate monitoring and evaluation approaches.
The collaboration involved inviting specialists from Walailak University’s Center for Academic Services in Nakhon Si Thammarat to serve as guest speakers. Assistant Professor Dr. Amornsak Sawasdee, Director, Associate Professor Dr. Laknara Khwanchum, Deputy Director, and their team shared academic knowledge and practical experience. Their contribution supported knowledge exchange between the two universities and the transfer of sustainability concepts to participants.
The programme combined lectures and practical workshops covering all 17 SDGs, their integration into strategic and operational plans, and case studies on waste management, natural resource conservation, education and health. Participants exchanged ideas and explored ways to apply sustainability concepts within their communities and organisations.
To assess sustainability knowledge, KPRU administered a 20-question test before and after the training, awarding one point for each correct answer. The questions examined understanding of key sustainability concepts and the ability to relate the SDGs to real-world situations. The proportion of correct responses to the question linking waste management with SDG 12 increased from 37.5% before training to 95.7% afterwards. For the question connecting solar energy with SDG 7, the proportion increased from 38.8% to 85.1%. These figures reflect responses collected at each assessment stage across participant groups.
