Repurposing an Existing Building for Learning and Community Activities
Sustainable Cities and Communities
Kamphaeng Phet Rajabhat University (KPRU) prioritises the efficient use of campus land and buildings by surveying and improving existing spaces to support learning and shared use by students, staff and local communities.
In 2025, the university renovated its former library building, which had been closed, and repurposed it as a Co-Working Space managed by the Office of Academic Resources and Information Technology. This project brought an existing building on previously developed land back into use, providing space for learning, collaborative work, and university and community activities. The university also transformed an unused area beside the library into a Co-Working Space and multipurpose activity courtyard. These facilities provide students, staff and local communities with additional opportunities for learning and activities, including outside regular office hours, making fuller use of campus space.
Sustainable Design and Construction of New Buildings
Sustainable Cities and Communities
Kamphaeng Phet Rajabhat University (KPRU) incorporates green building assessment principles into the design, construction and management of new buildings, considering environmental impacts, resource efficiency and occupants’ well-being.
One example is the Co-working Space building at the Office of Academic Resources and Information Technology. Its positioning and orientation respond to the surrounding environment and prevailing winds. Openings facilitate natural ventilation and provide sufficient daylight, supporting indoor air quality and a comfortable environment for learning and collaborative work. The building incorporates a rooftop solar power system and energy-efficient equipment to reduce reliance on grid electricity and lower long-term operating costs. Green spaces surrounding the building provide shade, help reduce heat and create a pleasant setting for relaxation and everyday use. Construction and acceptance inspections follow project specifications and construction standards, integrating environmental considerations into the university’s development of new buildings.
